The Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer (MPE) will drive improvement of overall manufacturing processes through analysis and strategic planning. Identify inefficient manufacturing processes and work to eliminate/change them to increase output and decrease costs all the while improving quality.  Work with Sustaining Engineering, Production and Customer Support teams to improve internal testing process and thus improve quality of the product striving to exceed customer expectations. Be critically involved in the transfer of complex Teledyne Optech systems to manufacturing from the Product Development groups.   - Create and implement manufacturing methods and systems, adhering to best manufacturing practices such as Lean Manufacturing and in compliance with regulations and/or industry certifications. The goal is to achieve best production efficiencies, manufacturing techniques, costs and production yields while continuously improving product and process quality. - Analyze Current Production Procedures and standards by estimating manufacturing costs, evaluating time standards, and making recommendations for tooling and process improvements of existing product lines. Spend time on the production floor analyzing workflow to find out where the process can be streamlined for lower costs and higher productivity. Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout while meeting manufacturing process, product, and quality assurance requirements. - Research new technology and equipment and propose manufacturing upgrades in order to support new products introduction and improvement of the existing manufacturing flow. The upgrade plans will be prepared, submitted for approval and then managed by the MPE to ensure smooth and timely implementation. - Work actively with the Product Development group to ensure efficient and timely introduction of new products into production. Provide manufacturing feedback to the new product development to ensure DFMA of products, review drawings, work instructions, BOM’s and other engineering documents and successfully transfer products to manufacturing - Outsourcing - MPE will constantly review the current Bill of Material and will make Make/Buy decisions based on Cost/Benefit analysis. The decisions should improve production throughput, improve quality and testability of the product and provide greater flexibility of the manufacturing flow. MPE will closely work with Purchasing group to engage suppliers and assess their test capabilities and provide recommendations for improvement. - Manage the continuous improvement process by conducting effective root cause investigation and analysis, implementing corrective/preventative actions, and maintaining quality metrics for monitoring and measuring. Implement statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods. Test Equipment Hardware Design, Manufacture and Test   This is the primary role and includes delivery of completely new designs alongside incremental developments and respins of existing designs. In all cases work must be completed and documented in accordance with the Engineering Test Equipment life cycle and will cover all stages of the life cycle from initial requirements capture, design, gate reviews, manufacture, assembly and test. This activity will involve working with many stakeholders both within and external to the team. Test Equipment may include, but is not limited to, burn-in equipment, Heavy ion monitoring equipment, Test Cameras and Front End Interface Electronics.   Support to Verification and Test.   Within the electronics team there is a broader responsibility to support the commissioning and use of the equipment we design and deliver to the Verification and Test team. This responsibility will extend throughout the commissioning and Test Readiness activities and will involve working alongside Verification and Test Engineers as well as Software and Mechanical Engineers to ensure Test Readiness Review gates are successfully passed. These activities may include, but are not limited to, optimising and measuring noise and writing and implementing waveform and gain validation procedures.   Support to Manufacturing   This role directly reports to the non camera test team leader and as such will include an element of electrical production support. This can include a diverse range of activities such as fixing and repairing damaged electrical hardware, modifying or tuning equipment for optimisation or reverse engineering older sometimes obsolete hardware so it can be rebuilt to current standards.   PCB Fabrication   The Electrical Team are key to supporting the PCB procurement process and help to assemble and check the Technical Drawing Packs sent externally to our suppliers. On occasions PCB assembly work will be required, which is generally shared amongst the team equally. Hands on training will be provided if required to achieve IPC J-STD-001 standard to ensure fabrication efforts meet the quality standards of the target hardware delivery.

You will be working with some of the best names in the industry, from start-ups to SMEs, the European Space Agency and NASA!   Now, you probably want to know what you could be getting up to?   You will be based in Chelmsford, Essex, however we are currently working remotely and we are expecting a return to our high tech site once it is safe to do so.   You will sit within a diverse team, made up of talented engineers, project managers and our bid and business development team who can support the navigation of complex bids.   No two projects are the same and you will build excellent relationships with both our customers and internal teams to create swift solutions to support us in delivering on time and to schedule.   If you are interested in the financials, you might like to know that we are part of a global business with a revenue of over $3B, there is always opportunity for development and growth.
