    Position Summary and Responsibilities

    As part of a growing team in China, the role of Principal Applications Engineer is focused on business-winning and is accountable to the Head of Applications Engineering (based in the UK). Using their strong technical expertise, they will identify and analyse opportunities for Teledyne e2v to grow and secure its business.


    This role is highly technical and the applicant must have a strong and proven record of working in a relevant engineering or physics discipline. It is essential that the applicant also exhibits good commercial awareness and is able to act as an effective ambassador for the Teledyne e2v brand.


    The position is full time, based in the Shanghai region. As Teledyne e2v does not currently have an office in this area, the successful applicant must be self-motivated and proactive, often working alone and based at home.


    The Principal Applications Engineer must be prepared to travel on a regular basis to work with customers and partners. They will be expected to travel to the Teledyne e2v Beijing office on a notional monthly basis to liaise with the Applications Engineering Team there and to the UK office in Chelmsford on an annual basis.


    The Principal Applications Engineer is expected to work in close partnership with the Head of Business Development (APAC) to identify and win new business for Teledyne e2v. They should be in frequent contact.

    In this role you will:

    • Use expert technical knowledge and understanding to identify and analyse potential areas for business growth in the Radiotherapy, Industrial, Transportation and Science markets;
    • Feed information into the Head of Applications Engineering and the RF Power Commercial team to support the development of engineering and commercial strategy;
    • Work with the Head of Business Development (APAC) to unlock opportunities that are aligned with our strategy and provide a solid platform from which to successfully win new business;
    • Work with the Systems Engineering team to accurately capture customer requirements in order to support successful delivery on new opportunities;
    • Build close relationships with our customers based on integrity and excellence, maintaining a level of contact which allows rapid identification of opportunities and threats;
    • Identify opportunities in the China supply chain and support the development of a business case and their qualification.

    Qualifications

    • Degree level qualified in physics or a relevant engineering discipline;
    • Good knowledge of RF, Microwave and High Voltage physics and engineering;
    • Strong appreciation for the relative effort required to deliver on different technical developments/solutions;
    • Understanding of the fundamental components and critical parameters of RF, Microwave and High Voltage systems;
    • Strong commercial awareness;
    • Excellent networking and interpersonal skills, particularly in a customer-facing capacity;
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
    • An ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally.
