    Position Summary and Responsibilities

As a Senior Project Manager, you will have the opportunity to develop and apply your advanced project/risk management and product development principles, theories and techniques in the delivery of critical time-to-market hardware and software products, and to have a leading role in our corporate-wide continuous improvement program.

     

    Responsibilities

     

    • Work with senior management and business/product managers to define project objectives.
    • Lead a cross-enterprise team of project managers, scientists, engineers, developers, manufacturing, service and marketing staff to take a product from inception to timely delivery by clearly setting and achieving expectations related to performance and quality – provide both project and technical leadership.
    • Ensure that project deliverables meet the scope, time, cost and quality constraints set out for the project while using time-to-market product development processes – For hardware projects, ensure a smooth transfer to production.
    • Set/drive expectations for the desired attitude and behaviour among team members and ensure that the team works effectively.
    • Structure projects according to the phase-gated methodology and lead the preparation for and securing of management approval at every gate.
    • Work with functional and senior managers to obtain the appropriate project resources, manage resource conflicts, forecast resource/skills capacity requirements and drive the desired culture of delivering on our commitments.
    • Interact closely with Quality, Production, Service and Marketing departments to ensure a successful transfer to Production and launch to market.
    • Lead the project team in applying appropriate risk management techniques through all the project phases.
    • Apply System Engineering principles in the development and management of the project deliverables.
    • Implement a clear and well-communicated change management methodology.
    • Lead and ensure clear communication between cross functional teams and/or senior management team.
    • Drive the development of product architecture to meet both current and future needs.
    • Take responsibility for all forms of project administration, analysis and reporting (scope/schedule/budget, Earned Value, major issues and risks, etc.).
    • Ensure clear and accurate project documentation (requirements, specifications, test plans, estimates, schedules, budgets, etc.) and thorough hardware and software product documentation (architecture, software/firmware design, algorithms/code, ICDs, manufacturing and assembly drawings, schematics and layouts, manufacturing instructions, etc.).
    • Apply all areas of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) as appropriate during the execution of a project.
    • Further expand and refine the organization’s capability in both Project Management and Product Development by introducing new processes/techniques and refining existing ones – be an effective change agent and take every opportunity to challenge the status quo organization-wide, identify ineffective/inefficient processes and propose/lead improvement initiatives.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 8 years of Project Management experience
    • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or Engineering
    • A PMP and/or an MBA would be strong assets
    • Experience with agile methodologies in hardware and software development processes.
    • Experience in instrumentation development, measurement equipment, or other optical-mechanical devices would be assets
    • Experience with MS Project – ideally with MS Project Enterprise – and MRP/ERP systems
    • Exposure to production environment, tangible DFMA experience a definite asset
    • Working knowledge of ISO quality systems highly desired
