The Manufacturing Technician is responsible for supporting the production line on a daily basis, problem shooting and resolving issues as well as planning ahead and implementing various continuous improvement initiatives.
The role will also involve working closely alongside Engineering, Manufacturing Management, Quality and Equipment Maintenance so strong communication skills are essential.
This role is working in the Linac Magnetrons Product Stream
There are several accountabilities that will be assigned to this role and they will include:
Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
This role will take ownership of the TPM activity carried out within the production area in which they are assigned.
The TPM activity will be mostly targeted at:
Production Line Problem Solving
There will be a substantial requirement on Manufacturing Technicians to solve/assist in solving production line issues. This will involve some basic problem solving techniques allowing them to work through in a methodical way for example PDCA loop (Plan, Do, Check, Act) and for more complex problems an 8D process would be used.
Scrap Recording and Monitoring
This role will involve reviewing and collating data around scrap that is occurring within production areas in conjunction with other Quality Technicians/Engineers. The SAP ERP system is used to record our scrap data and so data can be extracted to view trends and costs.
The expectation would be to work with Engineering on prioritising an action of plan for which scrap issue needs to be addressed. It would also involve working with Manufacturing Management to present and interpret the data as well as working on business justifications to spend money on resolving issues that are causing scrap.
Production Line Support and Development
This role will be expected to work closely alongside the Product Team Lead, Manufacturing Team Leader and Manufacturing Manager of the production area, specifically with regards to the following:
This will all contribute towards improved efficiency levels and the maintenance of them going forwards.
This role will require the ability to read and review technical drawings of parts, tools and equipment.
There will also be a requirement to make changes to drawings as well as generating a drawing for new parts, tooling and jigging.
There will be a Product Quality Engineer/Technician on most production lines that will be performing the day to day inspection duties. They will work alongside the production team inspecting assemblies. When problems are encountered the Manufacturing Technicians role would be to work with the Product Quality Engineer/Technician, Engineering and the Production team to trouble shoot and problem solve.
The Manufacturing Technician role will include inspection duties, this will be of the work of operators being trained and some other mandatory inspection points.
New Product Introduction (NPI)
Engineering are heavily involved in the process of NPI, the role of Manufacturing Technician will be to support the process, reviewing the process from the production line’s perspective.
They will build the first trial products using the standard processes then work with Engineering to refine and improve the manufacturing process.
When a product is handed over to Production, the Manufacturing Technician will also be responsible for helping prepare the relevant data pack with routings, Bills of Material (BOMs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and providing training.
Change Requests (CRs)
The CR process will involve working with Engineering around product and documentation changes that need to take place. There will be an element of supporting Engineering on the CRs that they submit as the Technical Authority for a product.
As well as submitting CRs on an independent basis for smaller changes that do not require Engineering support.
Engineering changes will take place for products and this will involve the Manufacturing Technician assisting in the implementation.
The implementation will involve re-training, updates to documentation/data packs and validating new skills/processes/equipment.
Customer Returns and RMAs
The Manufacturing Technician role will involve assisting Manufacturing Management to co-ordinate the customer returns/repairs,
The role will also include working with Engineering on carrying out triage of the products when they first arrive, then establishing an action plan for them after the triage.
This role will also be expected to work as part of the broader manufacturing team to ensure that we are meeting production requirements. This includes ensuring that the team for which you are working with meets daily and hourly targets for output vs plan, productivity, quality and safety.
It is expected that this role will also follow the objectives that are set as standard within the RF Power Manufacturing team regarding:
Housekeeping and Quality Standards.
Manufacturing output and maintaining the various Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) set by management.
Adherence to SHELT and HSE initiatives.
Commitment to skills and training initiatives.
In addition to the above objectives there will be several additional objectives specifically for Manufacturing Technicians, these objectives will contribute towards personal development, attainment of top level goals and continuous improvement activities.
Experience in inspecting and validation of other’s work
Experience of being involved in a Lean transformation programme or 6-Sigma project
