Position Summary and Responsibilities

You will spend the entirety of your apprenticeship working within the site services team gaining knowledge on the infrastructure of a successful, large manufacturing company, and becoming a vital member of the team that keep it running on a day to day basis, every day there is something different. You will be mentored by skilled team members looking at a variety of essential services including:

  • Maintaining and Testing Electrical Infrastructure
  • Carrying out Plant Preventative Maintenance activities
  • Building Management
  • Maintaining Demin water supplies
  • Working within the gas plants, Nitrogen and Hydrogen
  • Supporting work in the Effluent and waste plants
  • Fire detection and prevention
  • Maintaining and servicing Boilers and High-Pressure Hot Water Systems
  • Assemble, wire, program and test electrical equipment, motors, and control systems.

Demonstrating:

  • An enthusiasm to learn
  • A genuine interest in Mechanical or electrical engineering within a production environment
  • A methodical approach to engineering problem solving.
  • Compliance with statutory and organisational safety requirements
  • During your apprenticeship you will also get involved and become experienced at:
  • Interpreting engineering drawings and schematics
  • Produce mechanical and Electrical designs/drawings/sketches using CAD and manual systems
  • Communicating technical information with others at all levels, including technical reports and the use of digital tools.
  • Establishing and reporting engineering design briefs.
  • Modelling real-world mechanical systems efficiently.
  • Selection of design solutions for a given electro-mechanical engineering application and environment using data to inform their decisions.
  • Integrating electrical and mechanical engineering systems, considering new and emerging technologies.
  • Understanding BMS (Trend) theory and design (Building Management Systems)
  • Understanding LEV system theory and design (Local Exhaust Ventilation)
  • Understanding HVAC theory and design (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning)
  • Be able to survey, understand and record via CAD, Water systems and gas distribution systems
  • Plan manage and lead engineering projects.

Qualifications

If you have 5 GCSE’s at Level 4 (C grade) or above, including Maths and English at Level 5/6 (Higher C, B grade), or are currently or have recently undertaken a level 2 or 3 qualification in mechatronics or similar qualification, we really want to hear from you, even if it’s just to ask some questions about the apprenticeship or have a chat in confidence.
