Position Summary and Responsibilities

The RF Production Engineering team provides engineering resources to support Operational performance and major product development projects; from design through to engineering build and production support.  The team provides full product lifecycle support including prototype design & build, development and integration of processes and build documentation, and full production build.

 

This role is a key position with the Production Engineering team and will bring with it the flexibility to work across all techical RF product ranges, contributing to delivering consistent capability and improved capacity to our manufacturing processes. 

 

The successful candidate will ensure that all manufacturing configuration controls are in place and up to date through the life of the product, report to the customer on technical issues and assist the Operations facility. 

 

The RF Production Engineer will drive a proactive approach to right first time quality to promote growth, will enhance the reputation of the business through exceptional quality standards and contribute towards a significant reduction in overall manufacturing time and technical issues.

 

Main Accountabilities:

  • Work with manufacturing/production teams on all issues and problems of a technical nature, driving these to full root cause with sustainable corrective actions in place.
  • Develop mid to long range improvement plans for both product and process, working with the relevant stakeholders
  • Review, update, write and clear and concise work instructions (SOP’s) for use by the Operations area.
  • Write and review complete Risk Assessments, close the loop on identified actions.
  • Assist manufacturing in creating balanced lines with the flexibility to change dependant on the production requirements.
  • Plan and control the execution of manufacturing change from concept to production acceptance for process improvements and trials through permits, concessions, SWI’s etc.
  • Control the introduction of new parts and tools into the manufacturing environment.
  • To assist with the supply of pre-production parts and assemblies to the Project teams.
  • Challenge conventions in order to ensure continuous improvements, especially with regard to manufacturing cost and ease of manufacture.
  • At all points during production process give manufacturing technical input.
  • Write and review process FMEA & control plans, close the loop on identified actions.
  • Involvement in the analysis of new and existing designs to ensure DFM & DFA criteria is met.
  • Create and update configuration control documents and all product manufacturing standard times.
  • Manage the required activities through the relevant phase deliverable gate of the NPI process working with the BU Production, Engineering and Project teams.
  • Understand the lifecycle of all component types, their sources and lead-times.Challenge conventions in order to ensure continuous improvements, especially with regard to manufacturing cost and ease of manufacture.
  • At all points during production process give manufacturing technical input.

 

 

Qualifications

Essential Experience/Competencies:

 

Experience in component manufacture and mechanical assembly manufacturing engineering.

Experience and knowledge of RF product design processes

Experience/knowledge of RF Convertors – KA & KU Band ideally

Demonstrable experience in an engineering function in support of manufacturing.

Considerable knowledge of electronic/mechanical manufacturing philosophies, i.e. design for manufacture I assembly / test techniques.

A working knowledge of electrical and mechanical assembly, manufacturing and test

RF electronics including fault finding to component level

In depth CI, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodology, Quality toolset experience.

Problem solving experience (8D, A3, Root Cause Analysis etc.)

 

Good communication skills that can sell and influence to a range of audiences internally and externally with the ability to work with all levels of the business.

An ability to produce concise reports and effective presentations.

Must be able to demonstrate a high level of self-motivation and creativity.

Hands on with product, process, people and customer.

An independent thinker and able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplined team to tight deadlines.

Strong analytical skills.

 

 

Desired Experience/Competencies:

 

Knowledge of electrical and RF test techniques would be beneficial.
