Position Summary and Responsibilities

The selected candidate will work within the integrated R&D engineering team responsible for supporting the design, development and implementation of a wide range of high value, high-tech 3D imaging and surveying (lidar) products. This includes involvement in the full product life cycle of these electronic and opto-mechanical systems from concept, design, analysis and testing to production implementation and customer support.

 

  • Build prototype/preproduction hardware required to support product development.
  • Design and document cabling and wiring harnesses.
  • Build and test prototype/preproduction cables and harnesses.
  • Test and troubleshoot prototype/preproduction systems and subsystems for function and performance and to verify test procedures.
  • Collect and analyze test data to assist engineering staff in preparing technical reports.
  • Assist in generating engineering documentation for production assembly and test procedures.
  • Participate in component and tool selection/procurement for prototype development.
  • Assist engineers in various tasks as required.

Qualifications

  • College graduate in Electronics Technologist program or equivalent with 5 or more years of relevant experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of dimensioning and tolerancing of mechanical drawings.
  • Proficiency in building, testing and troubleshooting electronic hardware
  • Experience in using commercial software for electronic circuits design (Altium is an asset)
  • Operational knowledge of various types of electronic test equipment
  • Experience in computerized data acquisition equipment and software
  • Familiarity with electro-mechanical assembly, wiring and connectors
  • Familiarity with workmanship standards including PCB assembly, repair and inspection (exposure to avionics workmanship standards an asset)
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, to deal effectively with different departments across the company
  • Experience with lasers and optical systems is an asset
